Nanking Darbar Hall is where much of Rajshahi holds its weddings, gaye holud, bou-bhat, seminars and conferences. Here is what the hall has, what it costs, and what to ask for when you call.
The rooms
- Darbar Hall: a stage and theatre seating for 350.
- Dining: 225 at the table, size 90 × 30. For a wedding, 225 can dine while 100 more are seated.
- Conference room: a stage and seating for 100, size 60 × 20.
- Group meeting room: one room for 16, size 20 × 10.
There are no pillars in the hall or the conference room. The building is fully air-conditioned with power at all times, has plenty of car parking, and every table is served by Nanking’s own stewards.
What it costs
Hall rent is ৳25,000 for a wedding, a social programme, a gaye holud or a seminar. The conference hall is ৳10,000. Stage, gate, photo booth and high-table decoration is ৳30,000; a projector is ৳2,500 and a sound system ৳2,000. When an event management company runs the programme, the hall costs ৳40,000 for a wedding and ৳45,000 for a seminar.
Food is priced per guest. Wedding menus run from ৳725 (polao, beef rezala, chicken roast, kabab, dessert and drinks) to ৳950 (mutton kacchi on basmati rice, chicken tandoori, borhani, jorda and special packet paan). Seminar menus run from ৳750 for a Chinese set to ৳1,050. A holud evening menu is ৳450 a guest.
Holding a date
A reservation is confirmed only with an advance payment and a signed agreement. The venue charge is paid as booking money and is not refundable. VAT is added: ৳5,000 to ৳15,000 for a wedding depending on the guest count, and 5% on seminar charges. For seven days after Eid every menu costs ৳25 more a guest. Stage decoration and cooking are done by Nanking’s own people only.
